Project Summary

DreamLayer AI offers an intuitive and modern Stable Diffusion WebUI designed for AI artists, developers, and researchers. It aims to provide a familiar user experience, similar to Automatic1111 and Forge, but with a cleaner interface and the power of ComfyUI running in the background for local, high-performance image generation without requiring server rentals.

How It Works

DreamLayer AI leverages ComfyUI as its backend engine, abstracting away the node-based interface for a streamlined user experience. This approach allows users to benefit from ComfyUI's modularity and stability for generation tasks while interacting through a user-friendly, modern frontend. It supports both local open-source models and integrates with various closed-source APIs for flexible model selection.

Quick Start & Requirements

  • Installation: Run install_mac_dependencies.sh (macOS) or install_windows_dependencies.ps1 (Windows).
  • Start: Run ./start_dream_layer.sh (macOS) or start_dream_layer.bat (Windows).
  • Access Frontend: http://localhost:8080
  • Prerequisites: Python 3.8+, Node.js 16+, 8GB+ RAM recommended.
  • Models: Download .safetensors or .ckpt files and place them in Checkpoints/, Lora/, ControlNet/, or VAE/ folders. API keys for services like OpenAI, Flux, and Ideogram can be added to .env for integration.
  • Documentation: DreamLayer AI - Documentation

Highlighted Details

  • Familiar layout for users of A1111/Forge.
  • Modern, responsive UX with light/dark themes.
  • ComfyUI backend for stability and custom node compatibility.
  • Supports local checkpoints and API-based models (OpenAI, Ideogram, etc.).
  • Runs entirely locally for privacy and performance.

Maintenance & Community

The project is currently in Open Alpha, with Beta V1 scheduled for mid-July 2025. A Discord server link is pending. The project encourages community involvement through contributions, feedback, and starring the repository for early-supporter perks.

Licensing & Compatibility

The project will be released under the GPL-3.0 license upon code release. This license is copyleft, meaning derivative works must also be open-sourced under GPL-3.0.

Limitations & Caveats

The project is in Open Alpha, with core functionality and full documentation expected in July 2025. Some features, like closed-source model integrations, require API keys. The GPL-3.0 license may have implications for commercial or closed-source integration.
